AEG To Manage Muscat Centre

Construction is about to begin on the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre near Muscat.

Following 18 months of initial design study, the project is finally ready to begin, group manager for convention sales told the Muscat Daily.

According to the representative, the OCEC’s exhibition hall, parking area and energy plant will be operational by sometime in 2014.

Phase 2, which will involve construction of the auditorium, banquet halls and meeting rooms, should be completed by late 2015.

The venue’s managers, AEG Ogden, will start arriving in Muscat during the next few months and will open an office to overseas development for construction tenders in the middle of the year.

“We have identified 2,500 conventions that have the potential to come to Oman, with a view to securing business up to 2024,” the representative told Muscat Daily. “From the initial stages we have received very positive responses from key international decision makers.”

Some of these conventions, she added, “involve up to 4,000 delegates.”
