Beach Boys Reuniting At Grammy Awards
The appearance at the Feb. 12 awards show, which pushes the band’s previously announced reunion up a few months, will mark the first time The Beach Boys have performed together live in more than two decades.
In December EMI announced that Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston and David Marks were joining forces once again for a new studio album and commemorative catalogue releases with Capitol/EMI along with a 50-date international tour. The tour begins April 27 with a headline performance at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. The only other dates that have been announced so far are an Aug. 3 gig at Berlin’s O2 World and an Aug. 4 show in Stuttgart, Germany, at the Hanns Martin Schleyer Halle.
On Sunday The Beach Boys will share the stage with current Grammy nominees Foster The People and Maroon 5 for a special performance.
The long list of previously announced performers includes Adele, Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson, Tony Bennett and Carrie Underwood, Chris Brown, Glen Campbell with The Band Perry and Blake Shelton, Coldplay and Rihanna, Deadmau5, and Foo Fighters.
Stars taking the stage as presenters include Marc Anthony, Dierks Bentley, Jack Black, Drake, Fergie and Lady Antebellum.
In other Grammy news, performers, presenters and hosts have been announced for the Grammy Awards pre-telecast ceremony. The event takes place Feb. 12 from 1 to 3:30 p.m. PT at the Los Angeles Convention Center and will be streamed live at Grammy.com/live and CBS.com beginning at 1 p.m. If you can’t tune into the pre-telecast ceremony Sunday, don’t worry because the stream will remain on Grammy.com for 30 days following the event.
Current nominees Kim Burrell, Le’Andria Johnson, Kelly Price and Trin-I-Tee 5:7 will perform in a “Ladies Of Gospel” segment, along with nominees mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato, singer/songwriter Steve Earle and New Orleans’ ReBirth Brass Band.
Current nominees Gerald Clayton, Chick Corea, Brandon Heath, Arturo O’Farrill, OK Go, Corinne Bailey Rae and Esperanza Spalding will present the first Grammy Awards of the night in 68 categories. Grammy-winning producer Jimmy Jam will also help give out a few awards.
