Oak Room Closes

The Oak Room supper club at NYC’s Algonquin Hotel, famous for giving jazz acts like Harry Connick Jr., Diana Krall and Michael Feinstein their big break, has been shuttered for good.

The venue became a club in 1939 and was the meeting spot for the noted Algonquin Round Table group of writers, critics, actors and humorists.

The club went dark during World War II and didn’t host regular live music again until 1980. The Algonquin has been closed for renovations since Jan. 1 and will reopen in the spring.
