Resisting Walmart

Athens, Ga., doesn’t need Walmart, according to members of Georgia-based bands including R.E.M. and Drive-By Truckers.

And they’re joining forces to perform live and in a video aimed at an effort to stop a planned store from being built in their hometown.

Truckers frontman Patterson Hood and R.E.M. founding member Mike Mills joined a group of Athens musicians known as the Downtown 13 to record “After It’s Gone” as part of the effort.

The musicians recently performed the song live on the roof of Wuxtry Records in downtown Athens.
