Best Coast Coming To The U.K.

The Los Angeles-based group is taking its blend of surf pop/indie rock across the other coast for another trip to the United Kingdom in June.

Earlier in the week Best Coast was featured on Jeopardy with this clue: “Bethany Cosentino fronts the L.A. band called not ‘West’ but ‘Best.’ This – in your face, Eastern Seaboard.”

The band is working on the follow-up to its 2010 debut, Crazy For You. According to the Los Angeles Times, the new album is set for release in mid-May on the Mexican Summer label.

“We didn’t want to make a record that was like, ‘Whoa, what happened to Best Coast? This isn’t Best Coast.’ We wanted to do something a little bit more mature and grown-up,” Cosentino told the Times. “What’s the point of making it sound like you recorded it in your bedroom if you can make it sound like it was recorded at Capitol Records’ Studio B?”

The U.K. tour includes shows in Glasgow at ABC2 June 16, Manchester at The Ritz June 17, Birmingham at O2 Academy Birmingham June 18, London at O2 Shepherds Bush Empire June 20, and the Brighton Coalition June 21. The last date on the route is a set at Isle Of Wight Festival June 22 in Newport, U.K., at Seaclose Park.

When the band gets back to the U.S., they’ll take the stage at Metallica’s new festival, Orion Music + More in Atlantic City, N.J., at Bader Field June 24.

Best Coast also announced a March 12 gig in San Antonio, Texas, at The Korova.

More dates will be announced soon.

“A full Europe/UK tour will happen later in the year,” Best Coast tweeted Friday. “These are just a tiny fraction of all the awesome tours we are doing this year – so no worries. We will be coming to a city near you SOON!”

Tickets for the U.K. dates go on sale Monday, Feb. 13. The general onsale for Orion Music + More begins Saturday, Feb. 11.
