Amiria Grenell Wins Folk Award

Amiria Grenell won the “tui” for New Zealand’s best folk album for her second album, Three Feathers.

It was presented to her by the Recording Industry Association of New Zealand during the Auckland Folk Festival.

Grenell is the youngest of NZ country music pioneer John Hore Grenell, whose farm in Canterbury hosted the Whitecliffs music festivals for 14 years.

“I’ve been going to folk festivals since I was 10,” she said. Featured on the album was brother Redford, better known as Redwolf when he drummed for drum & bass band Shapeshifter.

Other finalists in the Folk category were Mel Parsons and The Chaps.
