Paralyzed Teen Tells Of Stage Collapse

A teenager partially paralyzed in last summer’s deadly Indiana State Fair stage collapse told state lawmakers his life has changed drastically since he was injured.

Eighteen-year-old Brad Humphrey addressed a state Senate committee that’s considering a proposal to direct another $5 million to victims of the Aug. 13 stage collapse that occurred before a scheduled Sugarland concert.

That amount would go beyond the state’s $5 million liability cap that’s already been distributed.

Humphrey told lawmakers Thursday that he played tennis last year at his Indianapolis high school but now faces a lifetime of needing a wheelchair-accessible home and workplace and taking many medications.

Humphrey says he worries that the additional money won’t be enough for those whose lives are “measured as in before Sugarland and after Sugarland.”
