The After Party In Vehicle Accident

Proving that sleep deprivation and driving don’t mix, Kansas-based band The After Party lost their van when the guitarist/driver succumbed to the Sandman’s call.

Touring with Allstar Weekend, The After Party was on its way from Boston to a gig on Staten Island when road weariness reared its sleepy head in Roxbury, Conn.

“I was driving at the time and already really low on sleep,” The After Party guitarist Andy Bell said. “We were only five miles away from where we were staying and I was starting to get really drowsy, but since we were so close I wanted to just finish the drive.

“I fell asleep for a split second as we came up to a curve, and we ran off the road over a guard rail.”

Although the van was totaled, no one was injured and the band managed to make it to Sunday night’s gig by using three different cars. Promising to play all dates on its schedule with Allstar Weekend, the band’s next gig is Tuesday night in Bergen, N.J., at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center.
