Odds & Ends: Toby Keith, Motörhead & Hangout Fest

Toby Keith is nominated for yet another award, Motörhead doesn’t want you to by a certain Motörhead box set and the 2012 Hangout Festival has sold all its GA tickets but has other options for ticketless fans wanting to, well, hang out in Gulf Shores, Ala.

Kids’ Choice?

The Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards may not draw as much attention as the Oscars, Grammys, Emmys or Concert Industry Awards. However, when Toby Keith’s publicist rep issued a press release saying the country superstar was nominated in the “favorite male singer category,” we couldn’t help but wonder who might be competing against the multiple American Music Awards winner.

Keith definitely faces some stiff competition. Also nominated for the honor is Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars and Usher.

Meanwhile, Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift are the noms for the Kids’ Choice favorite female singer while Big Time Rush, The Black Eyed Peas, Lady Antebellum and LMFAO duke it out for favorite music group.

Winners are decided by Nickelodeon viewers. Hosted by Will Smith, the Nikelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards airs March 31 at 8 p.m. EST on, you guessed it, Nickelodeon.

Boxing Motörhead

Hardly a day goes by when we don’t get oodles of email from publicists, record labels and promoters hawking new releases or concert tours. So we were somewhat surprised when we received a message from a band’s rep urging folks not to buy a new box set.

That band is Motörhead and the focus of Lemmy Kilmister’s discontent is a collection called Complete Early Years Box Set that was issued by the company owning the rights to the band’s early material.

According to its Amazon listing, the box set includes eight CD albums, seven CD singles, concert program replicas, three “Born To Lose, Live To Win” pin badges, a “Leaving Here” / “White Line Fever” seven-inch vinyl single plus more. Available as an import, the Amazon price is $644.97.

And what does Lemmy say about it?

“Unfortunately greed once again rears its yapping head. I would advise against it even for the most rapid completists!”

But if you’re aching to purchase something by Motörhead, the band suggests its latest CD – The Wörld Is Yours as well as its new DVD “The Wörld Is Ours – Vol 1 Everywhere Further Than Everyplace Else.” Neither of which costs $644.97.

Hangout Sells Out Of its GA Tix

Hankering to head down to Gulf Shores, Ala., for the third annual May 18-20 featuring headliners Dave Matthews Band, Jack White and Red Hot Chili Peppers? Well, you might have to dig a little deeper into the wallet because the festival is sold out of all its general admission passes.

However, that doesn’t mean the festival is completely out of tickets. VIP, Super VIP and Big Kahuna passes are still available featuring amenities such as (depending on the package) private air-conditioned dining room and lounge, private mainstage viewing area, 24/7 concierge service and more.

One perk that caught our attention comes as part of the Big Kahuna package, described on the festival’s website as “An Unprecedented Festival Experience.” Along with access to all hospitality areas as well as the artist compound, all amusement rides and more, Big Kahuna also offers “complimentary ‘headliner’ transportation” that consists of “vans waiting by the main stage to whisk you away as soon as the show is over, just like the biggest names in music!!”

Gosh, that’s exactly like the employee benefits here at Pollstar. Well, almost.
