Arena Projections Reduced

University of Oregon officials have dropped revenue projections for its 12,500-capacity Matthew Knight Arena after the facility didn’t bring in as much income as hoped in its first year.

But the lowered projections for the 2011-12 fiscal year are more related to ticket sales for basketball games than concerts or other events, according to a university report. The revised estimates drop revenue from men’s basketball by 15 percent, women’s basketball by 25 percent and outside events by about 30 percent.

Last year the arena hosted shows by Jeff Dunham, Avenged Sevenfold, Elton John, The Harlem Globetrotters, Brad Paisley, and Cirque du Soleil’s “Dralion” and “Michael Jackson: The Immortal.” Lady Antebellum with Darius Rucker and Thompson Square is scheduled for March 21, and Trans-Siberian Orchestra April 5.
