Aussie Teen In-Store Madness

A planned two-hour in-store appearance by 17-year-old Australian singer Reece Mastin was cut short after security deemed the growing mob of screaming girls a safety hazard.

Mastin, who won last year’s “X-Factor Australia,” appeared at the Warehouse Sylvia Park in Auckland, New Zealand, Feb. 23, where he performed briefly before authorities decided things were out of hand.

Fans waited six hours, some coming from other cities to see the new teen idol.

Organisers called for calm three times from the standing-room-only crowd before pulling the plug. In video from the event, security staff is seen telling the mob to be careful for small children.

No major injuries were reported but more than a few young ladies were visibly devastated by the cancellation.

The British-born singer was on a week-long promo behind his debut self-titled album through Sony, which sold 250,000 in Australia.

Mastin returns to NZ for three arena shows – Christchurch’s CBS Canterbury Arena April 10, Wellington’s TSB Arena April 12 and Auckland’s Vector Arena April 14.
