Primavera Debuts In Portugal

The organisers of Spain’s Primavera Festival have teamed with Portuguese promoter Ritmos & Blues to produce a sister event in Oporto.

Optimus Primavera Sound will be at the city’s Parque de Cidade June 7-9, and the lineup will largely feature acts also playing the Spanish event in Barcelona a week earlier.

Bjork, The xx, Wilco, The Afghan Whigs, Death Cab For Cutie, The Drums, and Codeine are among the acts lined up to play both.

The Oporto leg, which is expected to attract 10,000, will be sponsored by and takes its name from Optimus Telecomunicações, the Portuguese mobile operator that also sponsors Optimus Alive! Festival in Lisbon.

Ritmos & Blues, which last autumn partnered with Live Nation Spain to bring more international to talent to Portugal, also co-produces the country’s Paredes de Coura Festival in cahoots with Optimus Alive! promoter Everything Is New.

This year’s Optimus Alive! (July 13 to 15) has The Stone Roses, The Cure, Radiohead, Florence & The Machine, Justice, Snow Patrol, Caribou, Mazzy Star, and Metronomy.

Paredes de Coura (August 13 to 16) has yet to announce its line-up.
