AC/DC To Pump Up Aussie Football Fans

AC/DC has licensed its anthemic “It’s A Long Way To The Top” for the first time anywhere in the world.

The song will be used as the theme of this year’s Toyota Australian Football League (AFL) season. The track is used on a new TV commercial in a campaign that positions AFL football as “Australia’s game” to battle opposition from basketball and soccer, which Aussies have embraced more recently.

The song will be played through the season at all AFL venues.

AFL Melbourne-based general manager of strategy and marketing Andrew Catterall explained, “The song represents the challenges and sheer jubilation that every AFL fan or player goes through each season.”

Frontier Touring’s Michael Gudinski, who coordinates live entertainment for the AFL’s grand final in the southern spring, said, “It’s only fitting that Australia’s greatest game has adopted the world-famous rock anthem from Australia’s most successful rock band of all time.

“It’s a great tribute to the late Bon Scott and a fantastic coup for the AFL to get such acknowledgment, as this is the first time the band have linked themselves with an Australian sport.”
