Goldenvoice Buys Coachella Property

What is the significance of Goldenvoice purchasing the land surrounding its Coachella festival grounds in Indio, Calif.? Likely, it means more events.

Goldenvoice, promoter of Coachella and the Stagecoach country music festival – both at the Empire Polo Grounds in Indio – has bought 280 acres of land comprising Eldorado Polo Club, Triangle Bar Farms, Fish Creek and other property. The Eldorado club is used for camping during the festivals, and Goldenvoice President Paul Tollett said the purchases would allow the promotion company to build permanent structures for the events.

“This is definitely cause for celebration,” Eldorado GM Jan Hart told the Desert Sun. “We could not be happier.”

She added that polo will continue on the grounds. The polo club, which sits on 200 acres, had 19 owners but many are getting older. The “win-win” deal means the club can have polo “for a long time to come,” according to one owner.

Indio Mayor Glenn Miller made it clear: the purchase will give Goldenvoice the opportunity to add three or four more events to the city every year, such as a jazz and wine festival, that would operate on scales far smaller than the massive Coachella.

“They’re looking to build on the opportunity to be a year-round destination,” Miller told the paper. “That’s not just good for Indio but the whole Coachella Valley.”

Financial details were not disclosed.

The connections between the promoter and community continue to grow tighter. Goldenvoice’s Skip Paige has a home in nearby La Quinta, and Tollett has said he expects to purchase a home there as well.
