Orlando Calling Not Happening

Festival Republic’s Melvin Benn said there would be much consideration before moving on with Orlando Calling in 2012, and now it’s official that the event won’t happen this year.

“Orlando Calling will not be happening this year, but we discussing opportunities for 2013 and will keep you updated,” the festival tweeted March 28.

Last year’s even included The Killers, Bob Seger, Kid Rock, The Raconteurs, The Pixies, and much more Nov. 12-13 at the Citrus Bowl, but organizers were hoping for more along the lines of 100,000. Benn at the time estimated losses at “a couple of million plus.”

London-based Festival Republic stages major UK festivals including Leeds and Reading and Latitude Festivals. The Big Chill in London was canceled for 2012, with Benn saying he was unable to work around the Olympics.

That, coupled with the decision to not stage Orlando Calling this year, suggests the company may be taking a conservative approach this year.
