Say Goodbye To Amway Arena

Orlando residents said farewell to the Amway Arena as the 17,500-seater was imploded early March 25.

Originally called the “Orlando Arena” when it opened in January 1989, the venue was the home of the Orlando Magic and hosted the NBA Finals in 1995.

The venue was eventually replaced by the Amway Center, which opened in 2010.

During its 23 years in operation the venue hosted just about every act capable of playing arenas.

All those memories turned into dust Sunday morning when 620 pounds of explosives imploded the venue while Orlando residents cheered its demise.

What’s going to happen to the space once occupied by the Amway Arena? The city of Orlando plans to turn it into something called a “Creative Village” for high-tech companies, according to Tampa Bay Online.
