Mud Island Spruces Up

Mud Island River Park in Memphis, Tenn., was ready for visitors April 14 after updating its facilities to coincide with the park’s 30th anniversary.

Improvements were made to areas damaged by the Mississippi River flooding last May including concession areas and amphitheatre restrooms.

Concerts at the 5,061-capacity shed include Wilco May 19, Funk Fest June 15-16, Norah Jones June 22 and James Taylor July 15.

“This is the first time in Riverfront Development Corp.’s 11-year history of managing the Park that we’ve announced shows this early,” said facility GM Troy Giuntini. “And already all three Saturdays in April have events scheduled. We’re hitting on all cylinders from day one.”

The park brought in about 140,000 visitors last year.
