Jack White, Pumpkins For Splendour
It will be the only Australian shows of the year for some of the bands, including Bloc Party, At The Drive-In, The Kooks, Dirty Three and Explosions In The Sky.
Others will add headlining sideshows; Jack White is doing two, in Sydney and Melbourne, through Frontier Touring. Promoters Jessica Ducrou and Paul Piticco call this their most eclectic bill to date.
More than 70 were announced in the first round of acts. Among major Australian names also to take to the stage at Belongil Fields are Kimbra, Hilltop Hoods, Missy Higgins, Tame Impala, Wolfmother, Spiderbait, Angus Stone, Shihad, Muscles and DZ Deathray.
In the last few years, Splendour has been awaiting development approval for its permanent site at North Byron Parkland.
In 2010, Ducrou and Piticco took the festival to Woodfordia, Queensland, home of the Woodford Folk Festival. Despite appeals by Queensland authorities to keep the festival there – each Splendour pumps about $20 million into the local economy – it has returned to Byron Bay, with an extra third day.
