Philly Jam Announces Lineup

The Roots, along with special guests Daryl Hall, Queen Latifah, Common and Joe Jonas will rock this year’s Philly Fourth Of July Jam.

Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter announced the lineup this week as organizers predicted more than half a million people would descend upon the City of Brotherly Love for the annual event billed as the largest free concert in America.

In its 20th year, the Philly Jam is executive produced by Scott Mirkin along with The Roots’ ?uestlove. Last year Mirkin talked with Pollstar about all the work that goes into Philly Jam, saying the free concert is more along the lines of New York City’s Times Square on New Year’s Eve than just a free concert.

“I always say to people, ‘Fourth Of July was invented here in Philadelphia,’” Mirkin told Pollstar. “Where else would you celebrate all the things we love about this country on its birthday but where this nation was born?”

The Philly Fourth Of July Jam is part of the city’s annual “Wawa Welcome America!” series, a multi-day countdown to the Fourth that features music along with other events.
