George Jones Internet Feud
In a video posted on his website and YouTube, Jones said he would “like to apologize” for his daughter and her new husband, saying they were spreading “bad things” about him “on the internet and Facebook.”
His statements come after being hospitalized with an upper respiratory infection, which his daughter described as pneumonia and made public. Jones, who was in the middle of touring, appears to suspect she was trying to harm him professionally.
“None of these things are true,” he said. “They are all about money. I have gave and gave until I can no longer give. I will never let her go hungry, but I am tired of putting out, and I am not the person they claim I am.”
His daughter, Georgette Lennon, denied making any defamatory statements. Lennon is Jones’ daughter from his marriage to country great Tammy Wynette.
“All I’ve ever wanted is to have a relationship with my dad and for him to know how much I love him and for him to love me and want to be a part of my life,” Lennon said. “I had hoped that we could resolve this between the two of us privately and at some point he would talk to me. Unfortunately, things have escalated even further.”
Jones was recently hospitalized with an upper respiratory infection.
Lennon said she heard from a family friend that Jones was sick with pneumonia, and asked fans to send prayers his way. Jones’ publicist denied that the singer had pneumonia.
Lennon said she meant no harm and wasn’t trying to cause problems with the tour, and added that she understands why Jones questions the motives of those close to him.
“In the past there have been family members and there have been good friends and there have been management and people on all scales of life who have taken advantage of him, and they have stolen from him and stabbed him in the back when he turned and walked away,” she said. “So I know for him it’s been very difficult to know who to trust even in your family, and that’s a very sad and horrible thing to have to face.”
