Summerside Settlement Talks Ongoing
Talks continue related to a $ 1.3 million, 2009 breach of contract lawsuit against a California promoter stemming from a failed Michael Jackson tribute concert at Summerside, Prince Edward Island.
In 2009 the Summerside City Council voted to send two payments totaling $1.3 million to Katrina Berg Sussmeier at Starlink Productions, one-time MJ manager Frank Dileo and related business entities.
The concert never happened and the Canadian city sued the promoters for fraud to get its money back.
Sussmeier previously denied the allegations, saying the city’s failure to sign a non-disclosure agreement is what scuttled the deal.
Last December the current city council voted to settle the lawsuit for a lower amount on the advice of legal counsel to cut costs.
“There are still some things going back and forth,” Deputy Mayor Bruce MacDougall told the Guardian. “We had an update on it last week but it is still active.
“It’s going to get finished.”
