A Musical Subsidy
The municipal government of Beijing has decided to subsidize large and medium-sized theaters in the city as a means of encouraging them to offer more lower-priced tickets, according to the China Daily.
So far, about 15 theaters with seating capacities from 500 to 3,000 will receive money every month starting in May and lasting until December for certain types of performances, including Chinese opera, dramatic plays, dance operas, musicals, concerts and dance performances.
Popular music concerts will not be subsidized.
Also, the maximum number of performances subject to subsidy is 25 a year.
