Beastie Boys Sued

An unfortunately timed lawsuit was filed against the Beastie Boys, one day before band member Adam Yauch’s death from cancer at 47.

TufAmerica sued the group for alleged unlawful sampling on two of its signature albums – 1986’s Licensed To Ill and 1989’s Paul’s Boutique.

TufAmerica owns record label Tuff City Music Group and claims it has not received royalties or payments for samples of “Say What” and “Drop The Bomb.”

The company claims copyright infringement, among other charges. “I am very sorry to hear of Adam Yauch’s untimely passing and can assure you that the unfortunate timing of the filing of TufAmerica’s complaint had nothing to do with his health,” TufAmerica’s attorney told E! News. “On behalf of myself and TufAmerica, I offer our condolences to Adam’s family, friends and fans.”
