Streisand Returns To Brooklyn
Rumors that Babs was going to play the brand-new 19,000-seat home of the Brooklyn Nets began Monday when the show’s listing prematurely appeared on Ticketmaster only to be removed once reporters began asking questions.
But that was a genie that refused to climb back into the bottle. Now the Barclays Center has plastered a photo of Streisand on its website, announcing the singer’s first performance in her home borough since she sang in her high school choir.
“Brooklyn to me means the Loew’s Kings, Erasmus, the Yeshiva I went to, the Dodgers, Prospect Park, great Chinese food,” Streisand said in a statement. “I’m so glad I came from Brooklyn – it’s down to earth. I guess you CAN come home again.”
As you can imagine, the folks at the Barclays center are ecstatic about Babs’ return to Brooklyn. Venue majority owner and developer Bruce Ratner said he always imagined Streisand playing “center stage” at the new arena.
“It’s humbling and almost surreal to welcome one of the greatest entertainers of all-time to Barclays Center,” Ratner said. “Barbra is Brooklyn and there’s nowhere more fitting for her to perform. This will be a night to remember.”
Streisand isn’t the first music act on Barclays’ list of events. At this time that honor goes to Brooklyn Nets co-owner Jay-Z who is scheduled to play the venue Sept. 28. Ticket information for Jay-Z has yet to be announced.
Tickets for Babs go on sale May 21. Although Barclays Center isn’t listing prices, tickets for Streisand’s 2006 appearance at Madison Square Garden ranged in cost from $100 to $750.
