54 Below’s Broadway Debut

Broadway’s best will soon have a hangout of their own with the opening of a nightclub/restaurant beneath the building that once housed Studio 54.

The infamous New York City club’s basement is being reinvented as a swanky venue called 54 Below, which will feature up to three shows per night and a late-night lounge in a 144-capacity room beginning June 5.

The space will feature a 1920s speakeasy theme, designed by Tony award-winning set designer John Lee Beatty. Phil Geoffrey Bond will serve as director of programming and Union Square Events is handling F&B operations. The facility will also include broadcasting and recording capabilities.

Patti LuPone is scheduled to open 54 Below with a two-week stand. Other artists on the books include Jackie Hoffman, Brian d’Arcy James, Andrea Martin and Ben Vereen, among others.
