Conchord Member Honoured By Queen

Bret McKenzie, one half of the Flight of the Conchords duo, received the Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for his international achievements in music, film and comedy.

It was part of the June 4 celebrations of the Queen’s birthday.

“Now that I’m an officer, do I get to wear a special uniform?” he quipped.

The Conchords’ The Distant Future received the 2007 Grammy for best comedy album, and their TV series screened on HBO.

This year, as music supervisor of “The Muppets Movie,” McKenzie received an Oscar for best original song for “Man or Muppet.”

He also appeared in the “Lord of The Rings” trilogy and has a lead in upcoming NZ-made “Two Little Boys.”
