From Woody Guthrie’s hometown of Okemah, Okla., John Fullbright comes across as a seasoned songwriter with several albums under his belt. However, the newly turned 24-year-old just released his first studio effort – From The Ground Up – last month. One track from the album, “Moving” will receive the Harold Adamson Lyric Award from the ASCAP Foundation during a formal event in New York City Dec. 12.

Fullbright’s calendar is rapidly filling up as are appearances with other noted artists. In fact, one gig will feature him playing with one of his heroes – Jimmy Webb – in Evanston, Ill, at Space July 21. Fullbright will also appear with Shawn Colvin in mid-summer when he plays Minneapolis’ Guthrie Theater July 30 and Kent, Ohio, on the Kent Stage Aug. 2.

Other chances to see Fullbright include Madison, Wis., at The Frequency July 25; Tulsa, Okla., at the All Soul Acoustic Coffeehouse Aug. 24 and Austin, Texas, at the Cactus Café Oct. 12.
