Swedish House Mafia Calls It Quits

Swedish House Mafia says its upcoming tour will be the last chance fans have to see DJ/producers Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso tour together.

The supergroup, which officially formed in 2008, has come a long way since its humble beginnings. Angello and Ingrosso met when they were “six or seven” and after making music together, they bumped into Axwell 12 years ago and they “just clicked.” Angello explains in a quote on Swedish House Mafia’s biography on Facebook that initially “no one would give us shows – we had to beg nightclubs to put us on! We begged them to let us play for one hour and everyone loved it.”

In December Swedish House Mafia, which has only released one album – 2010’s Until One –  became the first electronic dance act to headline and sell out Madison Square Garden.

Now Swedish House Mafia says it’s ready to retire from touring. The following statement was posted on its website.

“Today we want to share with you, that the tour we are about to go on will be our last. We want to thank every single one of you that came with us on this journey. We came, we raved, we loved.”

The upcoming tour features the group’s previously announced July 14 gig at Milton Keynes Bowl in the United Kingdom, which Swedish House Mafia notes is its last U.K. show. The trio will also play Dublin, Ireland, at Phoenix Park July 7.

Festival appearances include Rock In Rio Madrid in Madrid, Spain; at Arganda Del Rey July 5 and T In The Park in Kinross, U.K., at Balado July 8, as well as events in France and Belgium.

Swedish House Mafia will now be playing two nights in Solna, Sweden, at the Stockholm Friends Arena Nov. 23-24.

Fans can also catch the group at its residency at the Ushuaia Beach Hotel in Sant Jordi de Ses Salines, Ibiza, off the coast of Spain, where the trio will take the stage every Wednesday from July 4 through Aug. 29.

The final leg of Swedish House Mafia’s last tour will be announced in August.
