Circa Survive’s new album, Violent Waves, arrives Aug. 28, but you won’t find it among the CDs in Target or Walmart. Instead, the band is taking a complete DIY approach by distributing the album directly to fans sans any label or distributor.

To accomplish this bit of self-marketing, Circa Survive has partnered with Topspin Media, The Uprising Creative and Firebrand to construct a Web-delivery system. Fans can choose from several different album packages, including a basic download consisting of the digital tracks and priced at $5.

But Circa Survive is betting its fans will want more than a collection of MP3s. For example, one deluxe package for the vinyl release of Violent Waves includes packaging hand-painted by bandmembers.

Circa Survive is also distributing “Suitcase,” the first single from Violent Waves, for free via the band’s website.

“Collectively we’ve run the gamut from working with really small DIY labels to big indies all the way to a major label,” Circa Survive guitarist Colin Frangicetto said. “The band has learned a ton from each of those experiences and at this point feel confident in our ability to successfully produce, release and promote a record on our own. There’s really nothing more satisfying to us then bringing our vision to the world in this way.”
