Like those old TV commercials featuring Orson Welles proclaiming that a certain vineyard would “serve no wine before its time,” Iris DeMent releases albums when she’s good and ready. Her latest effort, Sing The Delta, arrives Oct. 2 on her own Flariella label and is her first album of new material since The Way I Should, released in 1996. DeMent’s last album, 2004’s Lifeline, featured the artist performing her favorite gospel songs.

DeMent’s traveling plans include a couple of intimate performances coupled with question and answer sessions at Los Angeles’ Grammy Museum Aug. 9 and the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville Aug. 11. With another gig booked for the end of August, a sole September show on the books and a couple of mid-October dates planned for Toronto, DeMent’s schedule gets busy starting in November. As to 2013, so far the artist has one show scheduled, an April engagement in southern Wisconsin.
