Led by McDonald brothers Jeff and Steve, Redd Kross’ first gig was opening for Black Flag at a middle school grad party. Of course, that was back when Jimmy Carter was president and “Star Wars” referred to only one movie.

Having reformed the band in 2008, the McDonalds have lined up a September journey supporting the first new Redd Kross album in 15 years, Researching The Blues, due out Aug. 7 on Merge Records.

“It has the most singular artistic vision of any record we’ve done,” Steve McDonald said in a statement posted on the band’s website. “It’s just 10 really f***ing awesome songs that have the ability to move you in many different ways.”

The band has a few gigs to move you before September rolls in, playing the CBGB Festival in Brooklyn, N.Y., at the Music Hall Of Williamsburg July 6; the Smashed Block Party in Portland, Ore., at East End July 7 and West Hollywood at The Roxy Theatre Aug. 7.
