Another Hot Pohoda
While many of the July 5-7 weekend’s festivals suffered gloomy or even worse conditions, Slovakia’s Pohoda Festival brought in three snow machines to help cool the crowd.
While Rock For People in the Czech Republic, the other half of the old Czechoslovakia, was having to cancel acts due to extreme weather conditions, temperatures on the Pohoda site at the old military airbase at Trencín peaked at 37 degrees C (98F).
That’s two degrees higher than last year, when fire engines came on site to spray the crowd with water.
The only blip in the weather was the electric storm that shut down the festival for two hours. It was worse in the Czech Republic, where it almost wiped out Rock For People.
Pohoda’s growing reputation throughout Europe meant that once again it came close to selling out its 30,000-capacity.
The festival’s slogan, which is plastered all over the site, says: “I wish it could be Pohoda every day.”
The acts on the bill included Lou Reed, Elbow, Kasabian, Chase & Status, White Lies, Orbital,Anna Calvi, and Bat For Lashes.
