Peyton Has Money Woes

The local promoter identified in University of Hawaii’s Stevie Wonder concert blunder has a history of financial problems.

Hawaii News Now reports records show promoter Bob Peyton was accused of owing more than $20,000 in wages to crew members and stagehands of an ice skating show and that he filed for bankruptcy in 2009.

The university paid Peyton $200,000 for an Aug. 18 benefit concert that was recently canceled because it wasn’t authorized by Wonder or his representatives. The university is trying to get the money back.

Peyton declined to comment Tuesday. His lawyer Ken Kuniyuki says Peyton is cooperating with the concert investigation.

In January 2010, his bankruptcy trustee reported Peyton was allowed to have about $941,000 in debt forgiven.
