Hopsin became a big deal when the video for “Ill Mind of Hopsin 5” got posted on YouTube nine days ago. Within hours, it had 26,000 likes. By the very next morning it had 1.4 million views and 71,000 likes. As of post time, the video has more than 6 million views and more than 158,000 likes.

It has to do with Hopsin’s skill as a wordsmith, but there’s another element here, not the least is the opening salvo: “Man, I hate rap.” That’s followed by attacks against teen moms and gangsta wannabes.

Based out of Los Angeles, Hopsin was recently dubbed one of XXL’s 2012 “Freshman 10.” With more than 25,000,000 total YouTube views, he has a fan base of more than 300,000 fans on Facebook and 100,000 Twitter followers.

In 2011 he headlined more than 60 shows, including dates with Tech Nine and Machine Gun Kelly. He also recently collaborated with B.o.B on “Am I A Psycho.” Hopsin’s next album, Knock Madness, is set for release this fall.
