AEG To Manage Consol Energy Center

AEG Facilities and the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins inked a five-year management agreement for the Consol Energy Center effective Sept. 1.

The 18,500-capacity arena opened in 2010 and was named Pollstar’s Best New Major Concert Venue for the year. In addition to hockey and arena football, Consol Energy Center hosts some 150 events per year including concerts, college basketball games, family shows and other special events.

“AEG Facilities is thrilled to partner with the Pittsburgh Penguins and add Consol Energy Center to our portfolio of elite global venues,” AEG Facilities President Bob Newman said. “This exceptional new arena has achieved great success in just two years, and together with the Pittsburgh community, we look forward to building upon its stellar foundation, and to many years of continued growth and high-profile event activity.”

Financial terms weren’t disclosed. The venue is currently managed by SMG.
