Say Goodbye To Lily Allen

The singer formerly known as Lily Allen is going back to the studio to work on brand new material. From now on she’ll be known as Lily Rose Cooper.

Her press machine explains that she’s changed her professional name to reflect her married name. If you want to get technical, Cooper is her married name and Rose is one of her middle names. (Wikipedia points out her other middle name is Beatrice.)

The British singer’s most recent release is her second studio album, 2009’s It’s Not Me, It’s You. After putting out the album in February 2009, later that year she blogged that she had not renegotiated her record contract and had “no plans to make another record.” The post and her “It’s Not Alright” blog were both deleted quickly after that and her representative released a statement assuring fans that she was not quitting pop music. The next month Cooper told BBC 6 Music, “I’m not retiring from music. I might retire from signing for a bit. But yet, we’ll see.”

After only playing a dozen or so festival dates and gigs with Dizzee Rascal in 2010 she took a break from touring. Since then Cooper has kept busy by getting married, having her first baby, launching her own record label and creating the clothing business “Lucy In Disguise.”

Now Cooper is ready to make music again. In June she tweeted that she was in the studio with songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Greg Kurstin. Later that month she returned to the stage to make a surprise appearance with rapper Professor Green at The Stone Roses reunion show in Manchester, England.

Her representatives released a statement today saying that she’s booked additional studio time to work on songs she had written over the past few months as well as newer material. Any music she puts out in the feature will be under the name of Lily Rose Cooper. No release dates have been set yet.

“It’s great to work at my own pace, with no commitments other than to make music,” Cooper said. I’m excited to be heading back into the studio.”
