Helpmann Noms: Foos, Kylie

Kylie Minogue and the Foo Fighters received two nominations each for the live entertainment Helpmann Awards, organized by Live Performance Australia.

These were announced Aug/ 6 at events in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

Minogue is up for her two tours from the last 12 months, the spectacular “Aphrodite Les Folies” and the fans-only “Anti Tour” of b-sides and rarities in the Best Australian Contemporary Concert. She is up against Cold Chisel and Keith Urban.

The London-based Minogue this week topped the U.S. dance charts with “Timebomb,” marking her 15th club hit in America.

The Foo Fighters’ stadium tour with Tenacious D is up for Best International Contemporary Concert (against Prince, Roger Waters and Sade) and for Best Sound Design.

Finalists for Best Contemporary Music Festival are Future Music, Tasmania’s MONA FOMA, Byron Bay’s Bluesfest 2012 and the Sydney Opera House’s Vivid Live 2011.

The 41 categories of the Helpmanns will be unveiled Sept. 24 at the Sydney Opera House and broadcast by cable channel Foxtel.

The late indigenous crooner Jimmy Little, who died this year, will be one of the recipients of the JC Williamson Award for achievement.
