The fest, taking place Oct. 6, is moves from summer to fall but this year sports a lineup worth the wait for the annually “free-ed out” show. Other performers confirmed for the two mainstages are M83, Santigold, The Dismemberment Plan, Allen Stone, Trampled by Turtles, Portugal. The Man, Das Racist, Future Islands and Justin Jones.
The gig is free, but tickets are still required and go “on free” at noon Friday, Aug. 24 through Ticketfly.com. Presales are available to Virgin Mobile Live followers on Twitter (@virginmlive) by following the link provided there. Virgin Mobile customers and previous VMFF attendees will be notified of presale opportunities, too.
“After three years of crazy press and feedback, bands start to line up early to be on the ‘It-List,’” said I.M.P. Chairman Seth Hurwitz, who also produces the festival. “Fortunately, since the tickets go in minutes, we can wait until much later than most festivals to book the absolute best stories of the moment.”
As in years past, would-be concertgoers are encouraged to participate in volunteerism with selected programs fighting youth homelessness. “Free I.P.” packages, including tickets and premium perks, can be found at the festival website and there will be a “freemium package” available with a donation to the Re*Generation project, Virgin Mobile’s initiative.
Freemium packages include festival admission, a charitable donation to Re*Generation, a freeFest T-shirt, souvenir cups and early admission to the grounds. Packages are available via Ticketfly.com or at the 9:30 Club and Merriweather Post Pavilion box offices. Click here for the Virgin Mobile Live website.
