Ultras Join Forces

Two titans of the electronic dance music scene – which happen to share a name – have joined forces.

Ultra Music Festival and record label Ultra Music recently announced a global alliance that will see the companies collaborate on Ultra Music Festival-branded CDs and DVDs. However, there’s apparently another side to the agreement that wasn’t included in the announcement.

The record label sued the festival over trademark infringement in 2003, according to court documents obtained by the Wall Street Journal.

The pair settled in 2004, but the companies were back in court in 2010 with the label claiming the Miami fest had violated the deal that would see them collaborating on events beyond its origins. Ultra Music Festival is now staged in Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Korea and Spain.

The newest version of the settlement notes the two companies will abide by the earlier settlement, the WSJ reported.
