TMZ reports police as saying that Travis stepped in on what it described as a “family argument” between a husband and wife, which led to the altercation. A “source” tells TMZ that Travis appeared “extremely intoxicated” and the fight was over a woman.

However, Officer David Tilley of the Plano Police Department told People the argument was between Travis’ girlfriend and her estranged husband, so the performer stepped in.

“Randy intervened and reportedly an assault took place between Randy and husband. There were no injuries reported,” Tilley told the magazine. “There was no indication that [Travis] was intoxicated on the report. I’m not sure where these stories are coming from. It’s nothing more than what we run into on a regular basis.”

The singer was cited for a Class C simple assault, a misdemeanor offense.

This is just the latest run-in with police for Travis this year.

He was charged Aug. 7 with driving while intoxicated after he drove his Pontiac Trans Am off a road and was found naked and combative at the scene.

Police in Sanger, Texas, arrested Travis Feb. 6 for public intoxication after he was spotted sitting in a car in front of a Baptist church in the early morning hours following the Super Bowl.

Police said Travis was found to be drunk with an open bottle of wine in the car.
