SMG Loses Contract, Gains Praise

SMG lost a contract in Evansville, Ind., to make way for VenuWorks, but was praised for its service in the process.

The Evansville Board of Park Commissioners terminated SMG’s contract Sept. 5 at The Victory, Roberts Stadium and Mesker Amphitheatre because city officials said it would be easier to have one company handle management at city-owned facilities, according to the Courier Press, and VenuWorks operates the new Ford Center.

However, City Parks Director Denise Johnson and Parks Board Chairman Jay Ritter praised SMG and characterized the decision as business and not a reflection on the company.

“They were great citizens who went far beyond what they were asked to do,” Ritter told the paper.
