ARIAs Become Weeklong Celebration
This year’s ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association) awards have been expanded into a weeklong celebration including live shows, workshops, forums and discussions on a range of industry issues.

It’s been a successful year for local talent. Aussie acts have spent a total of 16 weeks atop the ARIA singles chart and 15 weeks on the album chart.
ARIA chairman Denis Handlin said the awards would be “another wonderful celebration of Australian music as we recognise those artists that have captured the nation’s imagination over the past twelve months.”
Bouncer Acquitted Over Sydney Club Assault
Two security guards at Sydney’s Ivy nightclub were found not guilty of assault occasioning actual bodily harm by a NSW District Court jury.
Christopher Vacic was acquitted of all charges, while Menelaus Hendra was convicted of the lesser charge of assault and sentenced later.
The prosecution claimed the men, with three others, punched, kicked and stomped on 19-year-old Nicholas Barsoum last August.
Barsoum had returned to confront the security team alleging some had punched him while escorting him out. Vacic and Hendra pleaded not guilty, claiming they acted in self-defense or in the defense of their colleagues.
Dotcom Accesses $6M
The New Zealand High Court granted Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom access to an additional NZ$6 million ($4.84 million) to pay legal fees and living costs.
He can also sell his luxury cars that were confiscated after NZ authorities raided his home in January at the request of the U.S. government.
Last month the court ruled the raid was illegal.
The German national is fighting extradition to the U.S. to face charges of $175 million worth of alleged online piracy and fraud.
