To be released as a theatrical film as well as in multiple video and audio formats, “Celebration Day” portrays original members Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones along with John Bonham’s son Jason on drums, cranking through 16 Led Zep classics. As noted on LedZeppelin.com, the Dec. 10, 2007 show at the O2 London was actually witnessed by only 18,000 audience members out of the 20 million fans that applied for tickets.

After premiering in London, New York, Los Angeles and other major cities, “Celebration Day” will have a worldwide theatrical release Oct. 17 and will be available in multiple video and audio formats Nov. 19. Tickets for the screenings went on sale today via the band’s website.

The “Celebration Day” announcement comes five days after the band launched a countdown on its Facebook page consisting of one number per day and resulting in many fans hoping (wishing?) the historic metal masters were about to announce a tour.

In other Led Zeppelin news, band members will be among the honorees receiving the 2012 Kennedy Center Honors. Also being honored are Buddy Guy, actor Dustin Hoffman, late-night talker David Letterman and ballerina Natalia Makarova.

The Kennedy Center Honors take place in Washington, D.C., at the Kennedy Center Dec. 2 and will air on CBS Dec. 26.
