Philly Fillmore Proposed

Philadelphia-based apartment rental company Core Reality is proposing an entertainment district for the city’s Fishtown neighborhood that would include a 3,000-capacity Fillmore.

The project, dubbed “Canal Street North,” would be the first phase of the proposed Penn Treaty Village, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. The Live Nation venue would be part of a complex that would include a bowling alley and country-themed  bar and grill.

The plan centers on the conversion of the old Ajax Metal Company across from the SugarHouse Casino. The venue would be the equivalent size to Live Nation’s Tower Theatre in Upper Darby.

Core Reality President Michael Samschick introduced the project to the Fishtown Neighbors Association, and the company was expected to present the plan to the Philadelphia City Planning Commission at press time.

Because the project is part of the central Delaware River district, which restricts restaurants and entertainment venues, special approvals are required, the paper said.

More than 100 residents reportedly attended the Fishtown meeting because there is interest in reviving the industrial area, according to the paper. A majority of the attendees reportedly supported the plan, although there were concerns about traffic and parking.

The Fillmore would bring in approximately 65 concerts a year, according to the Inquirer.
