Atlanta Rock Fest Honored

The Georgia Historical Society placed a historical marker Sept. 15 at the site of the Second Atlanta International Pop Festival, which took place July 3-5, 1970.

The event at Middle Georgia Raceway in Byron, promoted by Alex Cooley, featured more than 30 acts including Jimi Hendrix, The Allman Brothers Band, The Chambers Brothers, Rare Earth and Ten Years After. Tickets were $14 each.

A feature-length film of the festival documenting the arrival of the hippie movement in the Deep South is a work in progress.
