Roger Waters Rocking Out For Levon Helm

Now that Roger Waters has been confirmed, the lineup is finalized for the “Love For Levon” benefit concert and tribute to Levon Helm. The event will also feature performances by Lucinda Williams, Gregg Allman and My Morning Jacket.

The drummer and vocalist of The Band died April 19 of throat cancer at age 71. Helm also worked as a songwriter, producer and actor.

Helm and fellow The Band members Rick Danko and Garth Hudson were a few of the special guests that played with Waters at “The Wall – Live in Berlin” concert in July 1990, eight months after the fall of the Berlin Wall.

His solo career earned Helm the first ever Grammy Award for best Americana album in 2010, as well as the same award in 2012. He also picked up the Grammy Award for best traditional folk album in 2008.

Since launching the series in 2004, the Midnight Ramble Sessions at Helm’s studio in Woodstock, N.Y., have featured live performances from acts including Elvis Costello, Kris Kristofferson, The Black Crowes and My Morning Jacket.

“Love For Levon” is set for Oct. 3 in East Rutherford, N.J., at the IZOD Center. The star-studded lineup also includes John Mayer, Ray LaMontagne, Dierks Bentley, Marc Cohn, Patty Griffin, John Hiatt, Bruce Hornsby, Jorma Kaukonen, The Levon Helm Band, Robert Randolph, Mavis Staples and Joe Walsh.

The net proceeds from the event will help Helm’s estate keep ownership of his home, barn and studio and to ensure the Midnight Ramble Sessions keep rambling.
