Singapore F1 Selling Fast
Tickets for this year’s Singapore Formula One Grand Prix, which takes place the weekend of Sept. 21-23, sold faster than ever before, with 95 percent being purchased by Sept. 14, Asiaone reports.
Passes for the most exclusive zones were gone by the end of May. Last year, these zones sold out by mid-August. Other reports say that all remaining tickets were sold during the weekend.
This year’s race is the fifth, and as with all previous events 40 percent of the tickets were sold to overseas purchasers, mainly from Australia, Germany, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and the UK.
Representatives told the website the main draw was “the strong entertainment lineup.”
Buyers of certain ticket packages could attend concerts by Katy Perry, Maroon 5, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds and Jay Chou.
Singapore’s contract with the F1 world body is for a five-year deal, and so far there has been no report on whether the hosting rights have been extended.
The current contract requires a two-year notice, so conceivably the last race could be held in 2014, though an anonymous source told Asiaone it’s likely Singapore will sign another five-year deal.
