Beach Boys Unreunion

The tour wrapped in London at press time, has traveled four continents, and played 70 shows. It included an album of new material, and ironed out litigious differences between Love, his cousin Brian Wilson, and Al Jardine.

And it included a recent announcement by Love that he has decided to continue touring with his version of the Beach Boys (Love owns the name and has kept Jardine from using modified versions of it). The decision “caught his fellow band members by surprise,” according to the Los Angeles Times.

“Brian is very bummed,” Wilson’s manager, Jean Sievers, told the paper. Wilson said that although touring is very tiring, “I’m really looking forward to doing another album.”

Love said, in essence, his decision is for the good of group, indicating he’s being, ahem, protective of the band’s legacy.

“You’ve got to be careful not to get overexposed,” he said. “There are promoters who are interested [in more shows], but they’ve said, ‘Give it a rest for a year.’ The Eagles found out the hard way when they went out for a second year and wound up selling tickets for $5.”

Note: Pollstar did indeed seek rebuttal from Eagles manager Irving Azoff but did not receive a response at press time.

Love said he’d do another recording with his cuz if “I could write some songs with Brian.”
