Odds & Ends: The Who, Arcade Fire And J Devil

Who’s First?
Los Angeles band Vintage Trouble will be doing the support honors during The Who’s first leg which runs through Dec. 9.
One of the advantages of opening for The Who is that you have the band’s publicity machine behind you. The Who describes Vintage Trouble as “Four guys with a passion for music and a ton of soul” and says the group’s small-venue headline shows create “a raucous energy that captivates the audience and turns clubs and pubs into wild late night parties.”
If you’ve missed Vintage Trouble’s headlining dates you might have caught the band earlier this year when it opened for The Cranberries. In 2011 Vintage Trouble supported Bon Jovi on several of the band’s European dates. Vintage Trouble is currently touring with Joss Stone.
Montreal Benefit Includes Arcade Fire, Celine Dion
The list of artists appearing at a benefit in Montreal for the child of a shooting victim keeps on growing.
Word coming out of Quebec is that Arcade Fire will perform an acoustic set at the concert organized by L’Equipe Spectra to establish financial support for the child of lighting technician Denis Blanchette. Already on the bill for the special show scheduled for Oct. 1 at Metropolis are Celine Dion, Patrick Watson, Coeur de Pirate, Ian Kelly and Vincent Vallieres.
Ironically, Blanchette was killed just outside the venue where the benefit will take place. The 48-year-old technician was to help tear down the set used by Parti Quebecois’ victory rally when 61-year-old Richard Henry Bain allegedly opened fire. Wearing a mask and dressed in a bathrobe, Bain shouted, “The English are waking up!” in French as police took him away.
Bain is facing 16 charges, including murder, attempted murder and possession of explosives.

J Devil Sidelined
J Devil, the DJ identity adapted by Jonathan Davis when he’s not fronting Korn, has dropped off of the Rob Zombie / Marilyn Manson tour.
The official word is that J Devil (Davis), is just plain tuckered out from eight weeks on the road with Korn in Europe. At this time Davis has been ordered by his doctors to take it easy, refrain from traveling and not perform while he recuperates.
