Sam Sniderman Dies

Sam “The Record Man” Sniderman, a name synonymous with record stores in Canada, died in his sleep at the age of 92 Sept. 23.

Sniderman began selling records as a teenager, introducing them to the family business, Sniderman Radio Sales & Service, in Toronto, according to the Globe and Mail.

It became the backbone of the business and, by the end of the 1960s, was a music mecca. With the help of some memorable TV ads, he built a record-store empire that lasted until 2007.

“He went out on a limb and stuck up for us in those early days when we were trying our best to get something happening,” Anne Murray told the paper, recalling the era when U.S. artists dominated the market.
